The 10-minute area that ends daily shaving
Underarms are the area most people shave most often, and the one laser treats best. The hair is dark and coarse, the patch is small, and the skin is out of the sun — which is exactly the combination the SharpLight DPC Pro is built for. It is also where most of our clients start, because a session is about 10 minutes and the change is obvious after the first one or two visits.
SKINX SPA is at 36 Salem Rd S, Unit B, Ajax — actually in Ajax, 5 minutes from Ajax GO, with free parking at the door. Every session is performed by Papri, our female esthetician.
Why it works so well
Why underarms respond best
Dark, coarse hair
Laser is absorbed by pigment. Underarm hair is almost always dark and thick, so each pulse delivers its energy exactly where it should — the follicle.
High contrast
The skin under the arm rarely sees the sun, so it stays at its natural, untanned tone. That contrast between hair and skin lets Papri use strong, safe settings from the first visit.
A small, flat area
Two patches the size of your palm. That is why a session is about 10 minutes and why many clients see a clear reduction after only one or two visits.
How many sessions do underarms take?
Plan on 6–8 sessions about 6 weeks apart. Each visit only disables the follicles in their active growth phase, and the rest cycle in over the following weeks — so the course cannot be rushed, but it can be predicted. Most clients see roughly 25–30% less hair after the first session, and by the halfway point shaving has gone from daily to once every couple of weeks.
Hormonal shifts — PCOS, thyroid changes, pregnancy — can wake a few follicles later on, which is why the honest term is “permanent hair reduction”. An occasional maintenance session handles it. Book 6 together and save 15%.

Deodorant rules, and the rest
The one rule people forget: no deodorant or antiperspirant on the day. Everything else is the same as any laser area.
- Shave your underarms 24 hours before — the laser needs the root under the skin, not hair above it.
- No deodorant or antiperspirant on the day of your session; arrive with clean, product-free skin.
- For 24 hours after, use only a fragrance-free, alcohol-free deodorant (or none).
- No waxing, plucking or epilating for 4 weeks before and for the whole course.
- No sun, tanning beds or self-tanner on the area for 2 weeks before and after.
- Skip exfoliants, retinol and acids on the area for 3 days before.
- For 24 hours after: no gym, sauna, hot tub or hot bath — sweat and heat on freshly treated skin can sting.
- Loose sleeves the rest of the day; a cool compress settles any warmth or pinkness.
Dark underarms and shaving marks
Laser hair removal is not a skin-lightening treatment, and we will not sell it as one. But a lot of what reads as “dark underarms” is not skin pigment at all: it is the shadow of coarse hair sitting under the surface, plus the marks left by years of shaving irritation, razor bumps and ingrowns. Many clients notice that the darkness from years of shaving and ingrowns softens over the course once the hair — and the shaving — stops. Results vary from person to person.
On deeper skin tones this is also where a laser's safety matters most. The SharpLight DPC Pro is Health Canada-licensed and FDA-cleared for Fitzpatrick I–VI: its Dynamic Pulse Control sends the energy into the hair shaft, and the sapphire cooling tip protects the skin's own pigment, so you get the reduction without the post-inflammatory dark patches older machines risk. Papri patch-tests deeper tones before a first full session.
Will it change how much I sweat?
No. The laser targets the pigment in the hair follicle; sweat glands sit deeper and are not affected, so you sweat exactly the same afterwards. What does change is that there is no hair holding on to moisture and odour — which is why many clients say they feel fresher and their deodorant works better once the hair is gone.
Underarms + Brazilian together
Our most-booked pair. Both are medium areas at $150 each, both are the dark, coarse hair laser treats best, and both are the areas you shave most. Done together the visit is still under half an hour, and both run on the same 6-week schedule so the whole course finishes at once. See our Brazilian laser hair removal page for what that covers.

Questions
Underarm Laser Hair Removal — FAQ
How much does underarm laser hair removal cost in Ajax?
$150 per session at SKINX SPA in Ajax — underarms are a medium area. A course of 6 saves 15%, and first-time clients can use the $100 first-session offer on underarms. The consultation is a $25 deposit that is credited to your treatment.
How many sessions do underarms need?
Typically 6–8 sessions about 6 weeks apart. Underarm hair is dark and coarse, so it responds well and many clients see a clear reduction after the first one or two visits, but only follicles in their active growth phase are disabled each time, so the full course still matters.
Does underarm laser hurt?
It feels like a series of quick warm snaps, cooled instantly by the SharpLight DPC Pro's sapphire tip. The whole area takes only a few minutes per side, and most clients say it is easier than waxing. Numbing cream is available but rarely needed for underarms.
Can I wear deodorant to my appointment?
No — arrive with clean, product-free underarms. Deodorant and antiperspirant sit on the skin and can react to the light. For the 24 hours after your session, use a fragrance-free, alcohol-free deodorant or skip it for the day.
Is underarm laser safe on dark skin?
Yes. The SharpLight DPC Pro is Health Canada-licensed and FDA-cleared for Fitzpatrick I–VI. Dynamic Pulse Control and sapphire cooling protect the skin's pigment while the energy goes into the hair, and we patch-test deeper tones before the first full session.
Will laser lighten my dark underarms?
Laser hair removal is not a skin-lightening treatment, but much of the darkness in the underarm is the shadow of hair under the skin plus years of shaving irritation and ingrowns. Many clients notice that darkness softens over the course once shaving stops, though it varies by person.
Does underarm laser affect sweating?
No. The laser targets the pigment in the hair follicle, not the sweat glands, so you sweat exactly the same afterwards. Some clients feel fresher simply because there is no hair holding on to moisture and odour.
How long does an underarm laser session take?
About 10 minutes in the treatment room — it is the fastest area we treat. Paired with a Brazilian, the combined visit is still under half an hour.
