What IPL actually fixes for Pickering clients

IPL is not a resurfacing treatment and it is not a facial. It works on colour. The light is absorbed by pigment and by the haemoglobin in tiny surface vessels, which is why it is the right tool for brown sun spots on the cheeks and hands, the flush of early rosacea, and the fine broken capillaries around the nose that makeup never quite covers — and the wrong tool for texture, scarring or deep lines. For those we would point you at microneedling instead, and we will say so at the consultation rather than sell you the wrong thing.

Most Pickering clients come in after a summer of Ontario sun and a decade of not thinking much about it. Sun damage sits in the skin for years before it surfaces; the spots you can see now were laid down long ago. A course of three to five sessions spaced about four weeks apart is typical, and the spots tend to darken and flake away over the week after each visit rather than vanishing on the table.

Because IPL targets pigment, it is the one treatment where your own skin tone genuinely matters. It works best on lighter and medium tones, and on deeper Fitzpatrick tones the risk balance changes — the light cannot always tell your skin from the spot. We assess this honestly at the consultation, and if IPL is not right for your skin we will tell you rather than treat you anyway.
